U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that the United States will not leave the Iran issue prematurely in order to avoid having to return to it later.
In remarks followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Trump said that “the United States will not allow madmen to possess nuclear weapons,” stressing efforts “to eliminate any weapon capable of destroying the world, foremost among them nuclear weapons.”
He added that “targeting Iran’s nuclear program was necessary,” arguing that “without it, Iran would have been able to tear apart Israel and countries in the Middle East.”
Trump further stated that “159 Iranian warships are now at the bottom of the sea after the Iranian navy was destroyed.”
He stressed that “the United States will not abandon the Iran file early, so it will not have to return to it later,” adding that “Iran must not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon under any circumstances.”
