IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez announced that the organization is developing a plan to evacuate hundreds of ships stranded in the Gulf.
Bloomberg quoted Dominguez as saying that the plan will not be implemented unless there are clear signs of de-escalation in the Middle East conflict.
According to the IMO chief, details such as the arrangement for the departure of ships are currently being discussed, based on the length of time the crew stays in the area and other factors.
A representative of the London-based IMO stated that the organization has urged ships not to transit the Strait of Hormuz without safety guarantees.
