The Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee met with Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on Wednesday to discuss regional developments and their impact on Iraq, as well as the new Iraqi government's regional and international policies.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee hosted Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to discuss several political and diplomatic issues, as well as regional and international developments of mutual interest."
The statement added that "at the beginning of the meeting, the committee members welcomed the minister, who explained that his visit to Parliament was at his own initiative, aimed at strengthening communication and institutional coordination, and opening broader avenues for cooperation and dialogue between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee."
He explained that "the Minister reviewed the most prominent developments and events in the region and their repercussions on Iraq, as well as the new Iraqi government's regional and international policies, and the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform the international community of the government's priorities and directions, and to strengthen Iraq's presence and international relations in light of the rapidly evolving challenges facing the region and the world."
He indicated that "the Minister also reviewed the dimensions of the Prime Minister's visit to the United States, and the most prominent files and topics discussed during the visit."
He stated that "the meeting also addressed the results and most prominent outcomes of the Minister's recent international visits and contacts, particularly his visits to Syria, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, as well as his meetings and contacts with his counterparts among foreign ministers, and the bilateral and regional issues discussed during these meetings."
He added that "the two sides discussed a number of issues of common interest, foremost among them ways to develop and organize mechanisms for cooperation and coordination between the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in order to enhance integration between the two institutions and contribute to supporting Iraqi diplomatic efforts and following up on issues related to foreign policy."
