State of Law Coalition leader Nouri Al-Maliki and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Adnan Fayhan stressed on Tuesday the need to strengthen the Iraqi parliament's oversight role, while emphasizing the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination among political forces to reinforce stability.
A statement from Al-Maliki's media office, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said Al-Maliki met with Fayhan on Tuesday evening to discuss the latest political developments in the country, as well as a number of issues related to the work of the legislative and executive branches.
The statement said both sides stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination among political forces to reinforce stability and support the state's institutional path. They also underscored the need to strengthen parliament's oversight role to ensure effective monitoring of government performance, promote transparency and accountability, and safeguard public funds in the public interest.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of expediting the passage of legislation affecting citizens' lives, supporting the government's efforts to implement its ministerial program, and strengthening coordination among the constitutional authorities in a way that enhances public confidence in state institutions.
According to the statement, Fayhan praised Al-Maliki's role in consolidating Iraq's political process since its inception, describing him as a key political figure within the Coordination Framework who has played a pivotal role in advancing national consensus and strengthening stability. He also stressed the importance of drawing on Al-Maliki's experience and vision in addressing the challenges facing the country.
