Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi emphasized on Tuesday the importance of strengthening cooperation in economic and investment fields to serve the interests of both Iraq and Turkey.
The Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi received Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu and his accompanying delegation."
"The Prime Minister affirmed the depth of the relations that bind Iraq and Turkey, based on numerous shared interests, while he stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation in economic and investment fields to serve the interests of both friendly nations," according to the statement.
He indicated that his upcoming visit to Turkey will witness the signing of several memoranda of understanding that will broaden the horizons of bilateral cooperation in a number of vital sectors.
The meeting addressed the latest developments in the Development Road project and its economic and developmental importance for Iraq, Turkey, and the region.
Al-Zaidi directed that a clear mechanism be established for financing and implementing the project, ensuring the commencement of practical steps according to specific timelines, given its strategic importance in strengthening economic integration and regional connectivity.
For his part, Davutoğlu affirmed his country's interest in the Development Road project and its desire to implement it due to its significant economic importance, noting "the convergence of views between the two sides on the necessity of initiating the implementation of the project's basic infrastructure."
