Five years in prison for two convicted of supporting Daesh, SJC says

The Central Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced two men to five years and one month in prison for promoting extremist ideology on social media.

The Supreme Judicial Council said in a statement, received by the Iraqi news agency-INA that “the two were convicted of supporting ISIS by promoting the militant group's ideology on social media platforms. They were also found guilty of inciting and planning terrorist attacks as members of what so-called the "Lone Wolves Cell."

The court handed down the sentences under Article 10 of Iraq's Law No. 32 of 2016, which bans the Baath Party as well as racist, terrorist and extremist entities, parties and activities, according to the statement.
