FCOI, OIC call for Islamic alliance to pursue corrupt officials, recover stolen assets

The Federal Commission of Integrity-FCOI and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Tuesday discussed ways to combat cross-border corruption, calling for the establishment of an Islamic alliance to pursue individuals convicted of corruption and recover stolen assets.

FCOI said in a statement that Iraq had discussed with the OIC avenues for cooperation in tackling transnational corruption.

The commission said it was stepping up efforts to trace assets smuggled abroad through mechanisms provided under international agreements and had identified procedures for exchanging information on the whereabouts of individuals convicted of corruption outside Iraq.

According to the statement, the commission and the OIC called for the formation of an Islamic alliance to pursue corrupt officials and recover embezzled funds.
