Lebanese President Joseph Aoun is scheduled to meet U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on Tuesday.
The visit comes a day after the United States, which is mediating negotiations between Lebanon and (Israel), announced the start of implementing a framework agreement signed by the two countries. Under the agreement, the Lebanese army will extend its authority over designated pilot areas in southern Lebanon.
The areas are located adjacent to territory occupied by (Israel) in southern Lebanon, where (Israeli) forces are also positioned on the outskirts of one of the towns.
In an earlier statement, the U.S. State Department said Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised what he described as the Lebanese government's courage and its determined efforts to restore Lebanon's sovereignty and pursue disarmament.
