National Security Advisor Qasim al-Aboudi affirmed on Monday that Iraq seeks to expand its relationship with NATO, noting that controlling weapons and building balanced relationships are priorities for the Iraqi government.
Al-Aboudi discussed, via video conference, with NATO Commander General Ramon Armada, expanding and developing relations with the Alliance in the areas of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, training, consultation, and information exchange. The NATO Commander congratulated al-Aboudi on assuming the position of National Security Advisor, stated the National Security Advisor's media office, in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
"Iraq seeks to expand its relationship with the Alliance in accordance with its security strategy. PM Ali Faleh al-Zaidi has a clear vision through the government program being implemented by state institutions," Al-Aboudi emphasized to the NATO Commander.
He highlighted that "the Iraqi government's priority is to ensure that weapons are solely in the hands of the state, to build balanced relationships, and to open Iraq up to all countries of the world in matters of security and the economy."
In turn, the NATO commander expressed "continued support for the Iraqi government in the areas of training, advising, and all that enhances Iraq's security and stability, in accordance with the Iraqi government's vision and through the National Security Advisory."
