Communications and Media Commission Formally Signs Starlink Operating License

Communications and Media Commission (CMC) has formally signed the operating license authorizing Starlink to provide services in Iraq.

The CMC said in a statement, received by The Iraqi News Agency-INA that, in the presence of Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi, CMC Executive President Baligh Abu Kallal signed the official license allowing Starlink to begin operations in Iraq during a ceremony held at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in the United States.

The commission said the signing marks a significant milestone in the development of Iraq's telecommunications sector as part of its efforts to regulate satellite internet services in accordance with the country's legal and regulatory framework, while safeguarding Iraq's digital sovereignty and keeping pace with global technological developments.

It added that Starlink's entry into the Iraqi market will expand internet service options, particularly in areas requiring advanced connectivity solutions, while enhancing the investment environment and supporting Iraq's digital transformation efforts.
