Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi affirmed on Friday the strength of the economic partnership with the United States, noting the government's efforts to transform Iraq's natural and mineral resources into jobs that promote prosperity and support economic growth rates.
The Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi attended a major business conference in Washington, D.C., hosted in his honor by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The conference was attended by a large number of business leaders, traders, representatives of American companies, bankers, representatives of financial institutions and investment firms, and various industrial and technological sectors."
"At the outset of the conference, the Prime Minister delivered a speech in which he emphasized the government's interest in communication, dialogue, and cooperation with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, given its role as a key player in economic decision-making." He reiterated his "keenness to showcase the significant investment and economic cooperation opportunities currently available in Iraq across various sectors and fields."
The Prime Minister explained, according to the statement, that "the Iraqi economy today seeks partners in development and modernization, not merely contractors for implementation or supply," noting "the government's efforts to transform Iraq's natural and mineral resources into jobs that enhance prosperity and support economic growth rates."
"Several prominent representatives of American companies then spoke of their aspirations for an effective partnership with Iraq, given the encouraging economic approach adopted by the Iraqi government, which has taken clear steps in institutional, financial, and banking reform, and in securing an open and suitable investment environment for international companies, at the highest levels and volumes of investment."
