Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced on Friday the renewal of the initiative for dialogue in the region with the participation of Iraq and the Arab League.

In a press statement followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Lavrov said, "Russia has renewed its initiative for dialogue in the region with the participation of Iraq and the Arab League." He explained that "Russia supported the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, but expectations have not been met."

Lavrov emphasized that "the two sides are exchanging accusations of violating the agreement and of carrying out missile strikes, the price of which is also being paid by the Gulf States." He pointed out that "the renewed escalation in the region is leading to an accumulation of risks to the region's economy and security."

Lavrov stated that "Russia is renewing its initiative for dialogue in the region with the participation of Jordan, Iraq, and the Arab League, with the support of China, Egypt, and Pakistan." He noted that "Iran has confirmed its readiness for dialogue, along with China, Egypt, and Pakistan."

He added that his country highly values Pakistan's mediation efforts, noting that there are those seeking to undermine rapprochement between Iran and the Gulf states and build a broader anti-Iran front.

He continued, saying that Kyiv is deeply concerned because the Gulf crisis is diverting the attention of the West, from which it had been demanding increased and unconditional support. He explained that Europe pressured Washington to shift from a balanced stance to one of full support for Ukraine.

He emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is one of the most vital arteries for global trade and is no longer a free passage.
