The Ministry of Oil signed a contract on Thursday with the Chinese company Sinopec to conduct a seismic survey of the Adan block in Muthanna Governorate.

A statement from the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), indicated that "under the auspices of Oil Minister Basim Mohammed Khudair and in the presence of the undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Extraction Affairs, Naseer Aziz, the Oil Exploration Company signed a contract with the Chinese company Sinopec to carry out two-dimensional (2D) seismic surveys within the Adan exploration block program in Muthanna Governorate, as part of the projects included in the fifth and sixth licensing rounds."

This will contribute to strengthening the geological database, achieving a more accurate assessment of hydrocarbon structures, and supporting investment in exploration blocks, thereby boosting oil and gas reserves."

For his part, the Director General of the Oil Exploration Company, Osama Raouf Hussein, explained that "the implementation of this program represents an important step in developing seismic survey and exploration work in the Adan Block," emphasizing "the company's commitment to executing its projects according to the highest technical standards and in cooperation with international companies, thus providing accurate seismic data that supports future exploration and development operations."
