The Joint Operations Command announced today, Thursday, the formation of an investigative committee following the thwarting of an arms smuggling operation across the border.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Command said, "Upon the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, a high-level committee comprised of relevant authorities and specialists has been formed to investigate the details of the operation that foiled the smuggling of weapons and missiles across the Iraqi border into Syrian territory."
The statement added, "Coordination will be undertaken with the Syrian side to ascertain all details related to this operation and to hold those responsible accountable, ensuring the preservation of security and stability along the shared border and preventing any attempts to undermine national security."
