Communications Minister Mustafa Sand and his Iranian counterpart, Sattar Hashemi, emphasized on Wednesday the importance of strengthening the partnership between the two countries in the communications sector.
Sand said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Today in Baghdad, we received our counterpart, the Iranian Minister of Communications, Sattar Hashemi, and we discussed with him the prospects for bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the communications sector, especially in light of the atmosphere of the Arbaeen pilgrimage.”
It added, “Neighboring Iran is distinguished by its advanced cyber capabilities (defense and offense), its extensive steps in digital transformation and electronic payment, as well as its reliance on sovereign local applications as an alternative to foreign platforms in the fields of (cinema, navigation and tracking, electronic payment, and transportation and delivery,we have agreed to hold joint technical meetings between the two ministries’ teams to exchange experiences and transfer successful experiences between the two parties.”
It continued, “Iraq is linked to Iran through six vital fiber optic cable crossings (Shalamcheh, Al-Shaib, Badra, Al-Mundhiriya, Bashmakh, and Haji Omran), and the two countries share an extended border strip, close historical ties, and pure blood that was shed together in the trench of confrontation against terrorism.”
