Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi received Ben Black, Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), and the accompanying delegation at his residence in Washington, D.C.
The Media Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement, received by the Iraqi News Agency that “During the meeting, the two sides reviewed available opportunities and areas of cooperation between Iraq and DFC, including participation in infrastructure reconstruction and expanding financing partnerships for development projects and plans aimed at revitalizing the Iraqi economy in the energy, transportation, agriculture, digital economy, and services sectors. They also discussed moving to the implementation phase and commencing work on these projects”.
The statement further stated that “Prime Minister Al-Zaidi highlighted the government’s efforts to transform the Iraqi economy toward greater diversification and support the Development Fund with projects that keep pace with global advancements by focusing on the digital economy, establishing integrated digital government platforms, expanding electronic payment services, establishing national centers for specialized data, and investing in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. He stressed the importance of U.S. companies participating in these areas to accelerate Iraq’s digital transformation”.
For his part, Mr. Black affirmed DFC’s readiness to enter the Iraqi market with a package of financing partnerships for investment projects, contribute to the Iraqi Development Fund, and support U.S. companies in establishing partnerships in the Iraqi Development Fund’s projects across all of Iraq’s development sectors.
