President Nizar Amedi affirmed today, Tuesday, that naming Sulaimaniyah Airport after Mam Jalal embodies loyalty to a national icon who contributed to building a democratic Iraq.
In a speech during the ceremony to rename Sulaimaniyah Airport after Jalal Talabani International Airport, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the President said: "It is a source of great joy to celebrate together our loyalty and gratitude to our leader and icon, Mam Jalal, as Sulaimaniyah International Airport is honored to bear the name 'Jalal Talabani Airport' in recognition of his immortal national career and great legacy."
He added, "This occasion, with its emotional and symbolic character, expresses appreciation for the great struggle that Mam Jalal dedicated his life to in order to build a democratic and free life for Kurdistan and to establish the foundations of a democratic, federal Iraqi state."
He affirmed, "The life and enlightened vision of Mam Jalal have always provided enduring examples of confidence in the future. His vital role, both before and after 2003, was crucial and fundamental in fostering national understanding among the various forces of the people committed to building a federal democracy."
