Head of the Federal Integrity Commission Mohammed Ali Al-Lami affirmed on Tuesday that the commission remains firmly committed to protecting public funds, stressing the importance of strengthening national and international cooperation, exchanging information, and enhancing legal assistance to combat corruption.
According to a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Lami met with the Russian Ambassador to Iraq, Elbrus Kutrashev, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in combating corruption and to exchange expertise and experiences between the oversight institutions of the two countries.
Al-Lami stressed, according to the statement, the importance of consolidating national and international efforts, exchanging information, and providing legal assistance to confront the scourge of corruption. He noted that the commission is moving forward with strong determination and optimism, in line with citizens’ aspirations to eliminate corruption and safeguard public funds, while benefiting from the support provided under the government’s program.
He also underscored the commission’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the Russian side, particularly with the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office, through the exchange of visits, expertise, and best practices in corruption prevention and anti-corruption efforts, in accordance with the memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides.
For his part, the Russian ambassador praised Iraq’s pivotal role in the region across various levels and commended the Federal Integrity Commission’s efforts in combating corruption.
He also expressed satisfaction with the ongoing communication between Russian and Iraqi oversight bodies, emphasizing the importance of continuing cooperation and the exchange of expertise between the two countries.
