President of the Republic Nizar Amedi said on Saturday that building a secure and stable Iraq begins with safeguarding its children and ensuring the legal and humanitarian guarantees necessary to secure them a better future, stressing that care for orphaned children constitutes both a national and humanitarian priority.
In a statement, the Presidency’s media office said President Amedi visited the Iraqi House of Creativity Foundation, which is dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of orphaned and abused children. The statement said the president was received by the foundation’s director, Hisham Al-Dhahabi, who briefed him on the institution’s principal programmes and activities related to child welfare and rehabilitation.
According to the statement, Amedi affirmed that “the construction of a secure and stable Iraq begins with protecting its children and providing the legal and humanitarian safeguards that ensure them a better future.”
He added that care for orphaned children represents “a national and humanitarian priority” and a shared responsibility borne by state institutions and society, emphasizing that protecting their rights and providing them with a safe environment is both a constitutional obligation and a moral duty.
The president called for the strengthening of social, psychological and educational support programmes to ensure sound upbringing that preserves children’s dignity and guarantees them equal opportunities for development and a decent life.
He also underscored the importance of expediting the enactment of legislation that provides orphaned children with legal protection against all forms of abuse and exploitation.
The statement added that Al-Dhahabi outlined the foundation’s programmes aimed at protecting children in Iraq, as well as its continuing efforts to develop children’s talents, empower them and facilitate their effective integration into society.
Amedi toured the foundation’s departments and facilities, reviewed its rehabilitation, educational and psychological programmes, and received a briefing on the mechanisms for caring for children and the services provided to them, the statement said.
