Trump says US ready to ‘destroy’ Iran after Israeli intelligence warns of 'assassination plot'

US President Donald Trump has threatened Iran with overwhelming military retaliation after reports that Israeli intelligence had warned Washington of an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate him.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said “1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded” against Iran and warned that any attempt to target him would trigger a devastating US response.
“1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat, pronounced in many corners of the Globe, to assassinate, or attempt to assassinate, the sitting President of the United States of America, in this case, ME!" he said.
“Orders have already been given, and the U.S. Military is ready, willing, and able, for a one year period of time, subject to extension, to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran - PRAISE BE TO ALLAH!” he added.
The comments came after the Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed sources, that Israeli intelligence had shared information about a “specific” and “active” alleged threat against the president.
"Israel shared new intelligence with the US that it said indicated a fresh Iranian plan to kill President Trump," the report said.
CNN reported that the intelligence shared by Israel raised security concerns, with reports that the US Secret Service requested Trump switch aircraft following the Nato summit in Turkey.
The report said that the US had "picked up a steady drumbeat of intelligence in recent weeks about possible plans to assassinate Trump, but the warning from Israel was new and concerned a specific plot".
Trump’s decision to depart Turkey "on an older plane while sending his new, Qatari-gifted jet ahead to England was driven at least in part by security concerns around the escalating conflict in Iran", the report said.
The developments come as tensions remain high between Washington and Tehran, with the ceasefire agreed in last month's memorandum of understanding (MoU) increasingly strained.

Iran said that US air strikes on Tuesday and Wednesday killed 17 people and wounded 115 others in six cities across Iran.
On Friday, the US issued new sanctions on Iran targeting a key financier for Iran's new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, and 13 other individuals and entities, the US Treasury Department said.
Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, criticised the US over its failure to uphold the interim agreement, adding that Washington's actions demonstrate a clear breach of established commitments.
“Iran has so far kept its word, unlike the so-called US Treasury Secretary who is violating Para 9 of the MoU,” he wrote on X.
Paragraph nine of the MoU allows Iran to maintain the current status of its nuclear programme, adding that the US will refrain from imposing new sanctions or deploying additional military forces to the region.
“The violation follows other violations and missteps by the United States,” Araghchi said.
Araghchi concluded his post with a “reality check”, warning Washington that “there can only be mutual compliance” moving forward.
Agreement on track
Trump on Friday said efforts to secure a final peace agreement with Iran remained on track despite days of renewed hostilities.
The comments came after attacks on Qatari and Saudi Arabian tankers near the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday triggered two nights of US air strikes on Iran, followed by Iranian missile and drone attacks on US-linked military facilities across the region.
Despite the escalation, Trump said negotiations toward a broader agreement would continue even as the ceasefire was "over".

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue talks. We have agreed to do so, but the United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the ceasefire is OVER!" Trump wrote on social media.
In response, Iran's lead negotiator and parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, rejected any suggestion that Tehran would capitulate to Washington, saying the country remained prepared to defend itself if the US abandoned the Pakistan-brokered memorandum.
"We have never stopped preparing to defend our country, and if at any moment the Americans betray the understanding, we are ready for full-scale defence," Ghalibaf said.
"Ending the war is a priority for the countries of the world, but everyone should know that this conflict will never end with Iran's surrender."
The exchange came as Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged both sides to uphold the MoU during a phone call with Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian, stressing the need to restore regional stability. Pakistan has played a central role in facilitating negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Meanwhile, senior US officials told CBS News that Iranian representatives had attributed the tanker attacks to what they described as an "errant" group of hardliners seeking to derail diplomacy.
"They came back to the table and said, 'We screwed up. We made a mistake. Let's keep talking,'" one official told the network.
