The Ministry of Finance clarified on Saturday its role in issues related to recovering funds obtained from corruption cases.

The Ministry stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that, “With reference to the statement issued by the Supreme Judicial Council)SJC) yesterday, the Ministry of Finance confirms that its role in cases related to recovering funds obtained from corruption cases is limited to financial aspects and recovering the treasury’s rights.”

The statement added that "the Ministry believes that any mechanism for paying the amounts owed by convicts must ensure the full fulfillment of the public treasury's rights, and be binding and enforceable, in order to preserve public funds and the state's rights," noting that "with regard to judicial procedures or pardon requests submitted to the courts, this is within the exclusive jurisdiction of the judicial authority, which exercises its powers in accordance with the approved legal frameworks."

The statement continued, "The Ministry of Finance reiterates its commitment to cooperation with the judiciary and relevant regulatory bodies, in order to strengthen efforts to protect public funds in accordance with the law."
