The local government in Basra Governorate announced on Friday that it will launch the special security plan for the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (PBUH) on Saturday.
A statement from the Basra Provincial Council said the plan was approved following a joint security conference attended by the head of the council’s security committee, Aqeel Al-Furaiji, the commander of Basra Operations, and the provincial police chief.
The conference reviewed the main components of the security plan and approved implementation mechanisms as part of early preparations to secure the pilgrimage.
Al-Furaiji said the plan includes the distribution of security sectors and operational axes across different areas of the province to ensure the protection of Husseini processions, secure the movement of pilgrims, and enhance security and stability.
He added that the conference emphasized raising the level of readiness, strengthening coordination among all security agencies, and mobilizing the necessary resources to ensure the success of the plan and provide a safe environment and supporting services for pilgrims traveling to Karbala to commemorate Arbaeen Pilgrimage.
