The Supreme Judicial Council SJC announced on Thursday the seizure of IQD 14 billion hidden inside a stormwater drainage pit as part of the corruption case involving detained former Deputy Oil Minister for Refining Affairs, Adnan Al-Jumaili.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Council said that the investigative judge of the Central Criminal Court for Combating Corruption uncovered the newly seized funds in the case involving Al-Jumaili and other individuals implicated alongside him.
The presiding judge said the discovery came after a meticulous investigation aimed at tracing financial proceeds generated from the alleged waste and irregularities in projects carried out by the defendant and other parties in the case. The investigation led to the seizure of the funds, which had been concealed inside a pit designated for stormwater drainage.
The judge added that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all those involved in the case.
