Two commercial vessels were struck by Iranian missiles while transiting the Strait of Hormuz late Monday, in an attack that could prompt US military retaliation, according to US media Axios. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center said it received a report that a tanker had been hit by an unknown projectile about 8 nautical miles east of Limah, off the coast of Oman. “A tanker has reported being hit by an unknown projectile on the port side, causing a fire, whilst travelling southbound,” the agency said in a warning notice.
