Justice Minister Khalid Shawani met with French Ambassador to Iraq Patrick Durel on Sunday to discuss strengthening judicial and legal cooperation between Baghdad and Paris and exchanging expertise in training correctional staff.
The Ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Justice Minister Khalid Shawani received the French Ambassador to Iraq, Patrick Durel, accompanied by Judge Claire Thibault, at the Ministry headquarters to discuss prospects for enhancing judicial and legal cooperation between the two friendly countries."
"The meeting addressed ways to strengthen judicial and legal cooperation and exchange legal expertise, contributing to the development of institutional capacities and enhancing the efficiency of judicial work," the statement added.
The meeting also discussed mechanisms for cooperation in training correctional staff, particularly correctional officers, and organizing specialized training courses covering best international practices in dealing with inmates according to legal and humanitarian standards.
For his part, the French ambassador affirmed his country's readiness to cooperate with the Ministry of Justice in various judicial and legal fields in a way that contributes to strengthening bilateral relations and developing the partnership between Baghdad and Paris and enhances the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two friendly peoples.
