French President Emmanuel Macron announced the return of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle to France, several months after its deployment to the Middle East amid tensions between the United States and Iran.

In a post on the X platform, Macron stated that "this decision was made in light of the positive development represented by the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Washington and Tehran on June 17, which aims to halt hostilities, as well as the evolving needs in the region."

He added that "the decision was made after constructive discussions with the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq." Despite the withdrawal of the aircraft carrier, Macron emphasized that France remains "fully mobilized" in the region, noting that its naval mine-clearing and escort capabilities will remain in place, "ready to intervene" with partners, to contribute to "the full restoration of navigation and ensure the safety of traffic in the Strait of Hormuz."
