BAGHDAD – INA

Ministry of Justice announced on Thursday that it had secured a final court ruling in Jordan in favor of the state-owned South Refineries Company.

In a statement, the ministry said its Legal Department achieved a new legal success by winning a case before the Amman Court of Appeal in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, obtaining a final and binding judgment ordering a Jordanian company to pay financial compensation to the General Company for South Refineries, which is affiliated with Iraq’s Ministry of Oil.

According to the statement, the ruling stemmed from the defendant company’s failure to fulfill its contractual obligations under an agreement signed between the two parties in 2011. The ministry’s Legal Department continued to pursue the case before the Jordanian judiciary until the final verdict was issued.

The ministry said the outcome reflects the Iraqi government’s commitment to protecting public funds and safeguarding the state’s rights abroad.

It added that the ruling underscores the Ministry of Justice’s ongoing legal efforts, in coordination with relevant government institutions, to pursue international litigation and recover state assets through established legal and judicial mechanisms, reinforcing Iraq’s ability to protect its legal interests at both the regional and international levels.
