US holds meeting with 12 regional countries in Bahrain to discuss security of Strait of Hormuz

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced a regional security meeting with 12 countries in Bahrain to discuss the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. Central Command said in a statement, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that it led a regional security dialogue hosted by the Bahrain Defense Force with participation of regional defense leaders from 12 countries.

It added that “Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, and senior military officials from Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen discussed the current regional security environment and opportunities for enhancing defense collaboration across the region. Leaders underscored their shared commitment to the free flow of commerce through the Strait of Hormuz.”

It added that “the leaders also affirmed their shared commitment to ensuring the free flow of commerce through the Strait of Hormuz.”

Cooper said in the statement: “We continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with our regional partners,” adding that “the discussions underscored our shared commitment to regional security and stability.”
