Minister of Communications Mustafa Sanad affirmed on Wednesday that the ministry is adopting a vision aimed at developing the infrastructure of the communications sector, improving the quality of services, and supporting digital transformation. He pointed out that Iraq seeks to leverage its geopolitical location to become a regional hub for data exchange and communications.
Sanad stated during the opening of the Iraq Communications Summit, in a speech attended by a correspondent from the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The summit represents an important milestone for strengthening dialogue and cooperation between state institutions, the private sector, and international companies, given the growing importance of the communications sector as a fundamental pillar of economic and social development and a key driver of digital transformation."
He added that "since assuming responsibility, the ministry has established a clear vision based on developing infrastructure, improving the quality of services, enhancing the efficiency of institutional performance, and regulating the communications sector according to best practices, in a way that achieves the public interest, strengthens citizen confidence, and creates an attractive environment for investment and innovation."
He explained that "free internet services have expanded to include a number of public spaces and holy shrines, as well as the pilgrims' routes between Baghdad and Karbala, Najaf and Karbala, and between Babylon and Karbala during the Arba'een pilgrimage, in addition to border crossings and the Faw region."
He noted that "the ministry has worked to improve the efficiency of fiber optic services and increase international internet capacity in cooperation with partners and internet service providers, believing that improving service quality must be accompanied by protecting citizens' interests and not imposing additional burdens on them."
