Foreign Minister: Iraq Rejects Attacks on Gulf States and War on Iran

Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed on Tuesday that Iraq rejects attacks targeting Gulf States and also rejects war on Iran.

During a joint press conference with the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Mohammed Al- Budaiwi, in Baghdad, attended by a correspondent from the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Hussein stated that "the GCC Secretary-General's visit to Baghdad comes at a difficult time for the region;" adding that "Iraq is committed to international resolutions."

He added that "Iraq is ready for dialogue with Kuwait to reach decisions that serve the interests of both countries," reiterating "Iraq's firm stance of rejecting war and its expansion."

He stated that "Iraq rejects attacks targeting Gulf States and also rejects war on Iran;" noting that "Iraq is the first victim of war in the region."

Hussein emphasized that "the new Iraqi policy is based on the principle of the state's monopoly weapons to the state," indicating that "the government's goal is to combat corruption."

The Foreign Minister welcomed "Gulf companies to invest in Iraq."

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, said, "The visit to Baghdad carries many messages, and we commend Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi for the many steps he has taken."

He added, "I discussed with the Foreign Minister the developments in the region and the de-escalation efforts," adding, "I commend the Iraqi government's steps to prevent attacks launched from Iraqi territory against the Gulf States."

He continued, "The GCC states continue to support Iraq's prosperity," noting that "Iraq's security is important for the Gulf States and the region."
