The General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances announced on Tuesday the arrest of a major drug smuggler in possession of 32 kg of Captagon near the Arar border crossing in Anbar province.
A statement from the Directorate, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), indicated that "the General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, in a high-quality security operation based on precise intelligence and reliable information, apprehended a major drug smuggler."
"The operation followed continuous monitoring of the suspect's movements, resulting in his arrest in the act and the seizure of 32 kg of Captagon near the Arar border crossing in Anbar province, which he intended to smuggle into a neighboring country," the statement added.
The Directorate explained that this operation confirms the General Directorate's continued pursuit of drug smuggling networks and drying up their sources, which targets major smugglers and traffickers, thus enhancing the country's security and thwarting attempts to smuggle poisons into and out of Iraq. "
