Head of the Border Ports Commission, Lt. Gen. Omar Adnan Al-Waili, on Tuesday inspected the Mandali and Al-Mundhiriyah border crossings in Diyala Province, stressing full adherence to government directives and the integration of efforts among all security and oversight agencies to ensure smooth operations and prevent smuggling or manipulation.

In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the commission said that Al-Waili conducted a field visit to the Mandali and Al-Mundhiriyah border crossings, accompanied by the Director of Border Security at the National Security Service and the Director of Security in Diyala.

The statement noted that the visit aimed to assess on the ground the level of performance and compliance with recently issued government decisions, foremost among them the directives of Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi, which stipulate the presence of officers from the National Intelligence Service and the National Security Service within customs inspection areas and trade exchange yards at border crossings. The measure is intended to enhance security and intelligence scrutiny and tighten control over the movement of goods and travelers.

The visit included an inspection tour of the facilities at both crossings, during which Al-Waili reviewed operational mechanisms and procedures in place. He emphasized strict compliance with government directives and the need for integrated efforts among all security and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth workflow and prevent any instances of smuggling or manipulation.

According to the statement, Al-Waili also chaired an expanded meeting with directors and representatives of departments operating at the two crossings. Discussions focused on improving institutional performance, simplifying procedures, increasing non-oil revenues, addressing operational challenges, and ensuring full preparedness to receive pilgrims participating in the commemoration of Arbaeen of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

He further stressed the importance of adhering to electronic systems and existing regulations, while enhancing joint coordination among all relevant entities.

Al-Waili reiterated that the Border Ports Commission remains committed to implementing the government’s program aimed at strengthening economic security, improving operational efficiency, and applying the highest standards of oversight and transparency across all border crossings, thereby safeguarding public funds and serving the public interest.
