Trump: Doha meeting may prove important for Iran talks

US President Donald Trump said a new round of talks with Iran is set to take place in Doha, Qatar, as Washington continues efforts to secure what he described as the denuclearisation of Iran.

“There’ll be a meeting on that tomorrow in Doha,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

“The meeting in Doha is going to be, perhaps important, perhaps not. We’re going to find out.”

He added that the United States was doing “very well” in its efforts and claimed Iran had agreed not to pursue a nuclear weapon.

“We don’t want them to have a nuclear weapon, and they’re not going to have a nuclear weapon. And they’ve agreed to that,” Trump said.

He also said that the conflict was “almost won militarily” and that the focus now remained on securing a lasting agreement.
