A US official stated that the United States and Iran have agreed to halt attacks against each other and are planning to hold a meeting and resume talks.
The United States and Iran have exchanged strikes in recent days despite signing a memorandum of understanding on June 17 to end the war that disrupted shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Under this memorandum, Tehran pledged to allow safe passage for commercial vessels through the strait, while Washington agreed to lift its blockade on Iranian ports.
The US official said in an email, "Technical discussions are scheduled to continue on all areas of the memorandum of understanding," adding, "Both sides will cease fire for the time being, and ships can move freely."
The official did not provide details on when or where the talks would take place, but U.S. officials and a third source familiar with the matter told Axios that discussions would resume Tuesday in Qatar.
CNN reported similar comments, citing a Trump administration official, who said the two sides would halt attacks for now and had agreed to meet in Doha on Tuesday for further discussions.
