Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that a memorandum of understanding includes provisions to halt the war on all fronts, particularly in Lebanon.
He added that the purpose of his visit was to thank Iraq for its support and to coordinate with Baghdad on establishing a mechanism for the funeral arrangements of the martyr Sayyed Al-Khamenei in the holy sites.
Araghchi said in remarks during a joint press conference with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, attended by an Iraq News Agency (INA) correspondent, that the primary objective of his visit to Baghdad is to express gratitude to the Iraqi government and people, noting that his visit comes at a special time and that the Iraqi government has taken important positions in condemning the aggression against Iran.
He affirmed Iran’s determination to continue cooperation with the Iraqi government in strategic fields.
He added that the memorandum of understanding includes a cessation of hostilities on all fronts, particularly in Lebanon, stressing the need to halt Israeli attacks in Lebanon and to withdraw from areas it occupies there, adding that this is the responsibility of the U.S. administration.
He went on to say that no party should interfere in the management of the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the strait is under Iranian administration and that, once obstacles are removed, matters will return to normal.
He said there is no responsibility for any party in the operation of the Strait of Hormuz, adding that anything to the contrary would be in violation of the memorandum of understanding with Washington.
He noted that he had briefed Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on developments in talks with Washington and on the Hormuz file, expressing his gratitude to Iraq for its positive positions in support of the Iranian people.
He concluded by saying that another objective of the visit is to coordinate with Baghdad on establishing a mechanism for the funeral procession of the martyr Sayyed Ali Khamenei at Iraq’s holy shrines.
