Faihan and Gafarova Discuss Strengthening Economic and Tourism Cooperation Between Iraq and Azerbaijan

First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Adnan Faihan al-Dulaimi, met today, Thursday, with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Sahiba Gafarova, to discuss strengthening economic and tourism cooperation and activating student exchange programs.

The media office of the First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the Iraqi parliamentary delegation, headed by First Deputy Speaker Adnan Faihan al-Dulaimi, met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Sahiba Gafarova, on the sidelines of its participation in the 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, held in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku."

"Al-Dulaimi began the meeting by thanking the Azerbaijani side for the warm welcome and excellent organization while emphasizing the importance of elevating Iraqi-Azerbaijani relations to broader levels by activating the parliamentary friendship committee and intensifying the exchange of visits and legislative expertise between the two countries," the statement added.

"During the meeting, Faihan stressed the need to facilitate visa procedures for students and tourists and to address the obstacles facing Iranian students wishing to study in Iraq to enhance academic and cultural cooperation between the two countries, as well as the importance of increasing the volume of trade and expanding joint economic and investment partnerships," according to the statement.

"Both sides welcomed the agreement to end the war between Iran and the United States and expressed their hope that this step will contribute to strengthening regional security and stability," the statement continued.

For her part, Gafarova affirmed her country's keenness to consolidate relations with Iraq and support avenues of parliamentary, economic, and tourism cooperation in a way that serves the interests of both friendly nations.
