Gold prices fell below $4,000 an ounce on Wednesday for the first time since last November, as the strengthening US dollar continued to put downward pressure on the precious metal.
The price of gold dropped by 3 percent as the US currency strengthened, reaching $3,978.79 an ounce.
Gold had reached an all-time high of $5,589.38 an ounce in late January, meaning it has now lost more than 28 percent from its peak.
