Rubio on US-Iran deal: Iran will not be able to charge tolls on Hormuz, Lebanon ceasefire kept separate

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday that Iran would not be allowed to charge a toll on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz as part of any final agreement with the US.

“It’s an international waterway. No country is allowed to charge toll or fees on an international waterway. That’s existing international law,” Rubio told reporters as he landed in Abu Dhabi on the first leg of his tour of the Gulf nations.

He also said that negotiating and maintaining a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon will be kept separate from any deal with Iran, adding that the US will “negotiate and deal directly with the Lebanese government”.
