US Chargé d'Affaires to Iraq, Joshua Harris, affirmed on Monday that the United States is working very intensively with PM Ali al-Zaidi and his government.
"US diplomacy is very seriously focused on establishing a strong and mutually beneficial relationship between Iraq and the United States, for both the Iraqis and the United States," Harris said in a televised interview, monitored by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
He explained that "President Trump and Special Presidential Envoy Ambassador Tom Barrack have been very clear in wishing the Prime Minister complete success in forming a government that meets the aspirations of the Iraqi people."
"We welcome the return of the Special Presidential Envoy, who returned to Iraq last week. President Trump looks forward to hosting the Prime Minister in Washington next month," he added.
Harris affirmed, "There are many opportunities and possibilities in our relationship through economic and trade cooperation to write a new chapter in this regard. The United States expects that there will be mutual benefit for Iraq and the United States."
“Many important matters were addressed, and a great deal of significant effort was exerted last week. A joint statement was issued by the Special Presidential Envoy and the Prime Minister, demonstrating our commitment to ensuring that weapons are solely in the hands of the Iraqi state,” he highlighted.
He explained that "US companies offer the best technology and solutions to Iraq, including support in building its future in the oil, gas, and electricity sectors, to elevate the country to a higher level and achieve significant results."
“The largest and most capable companies operating in Iraq are American companies, involved in this sector to increase liquefied natural gas imports, provide the necessary fuel for power plants, and develop existing resources," said Harris.
