President Joseph Aoun affirmed on Friday that the expansion of (Israeli) attacks on southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley constitutes a dangerous and condemned escalation, considering it a direct attack on efforts to solidify the ceasefire and end the war.
Aoun stated that "what is happening on the ground will not prevent us from continuing to work towards achieving a comprehensive ceasefire as soon as possible," emphasizing that "a comprehensive ceasefire must be the essential prerequisite for discussing the remaining outstanding issues."
He added that he "instructed the negotiating delegation not to compromise on this matter," stressing that "any discussion on other issues must be preceded by the establishment of a comprehensive ceasefire."
The Lebanese president explained that "the subsequent issues include the (Israeli) withdrawal, the deployment of the Lebanese army, and the return of prisoners," noting that "these issues fall within the framework of efforts aimed at achieving stability and halting the escalation."
