The Ministry of Transport announced on Friday that Iraq has received a notification from the International Road Transport Union-IRU confirming significant progress in the implementation of the TIR system.
The Director of the Land Transport Department within the Technical Directorate at the Ministry of Transport, Israa Hanoun, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “a notification from the International Road Transport Union (IRU) reached Iraq’s TIR Convention focal point at the Ministry of Transport, bearing the message ‘Iraq steals the show,’ in a statement affirming Iraq’s high level of progress in implementing the TIR system during 2025.”
Hanoun explained that “the system has been fully activated, seven new international routes have been opened through Iraqi territory within eight months, and more than 1,000 international transport operations have been carried out,” noting that “the notification also confirms the continued adoption of the TIR system for overland transit of goods through Iraq, contributing to enhanced efficiency and security of international trade and reinforcing Iraq’s position as a key regional logistics corridor.”
