Iran waives Hormuz transit fees for 60 days, requires advance passage permits

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has announced that Tehran will not impose any fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days under a memorandum of understanding signed with the United States, according to Iranian media reports. In a statement, the council said commercial vessels wishing to transit the strait must submit advance passage requests to what it described as the waterway administration. The statement added that mine-clearing operations would be carried out under the memorandum of understanding signed in Islamabad, with vessels required to follow the route and timetable specified by the authority.
