First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Adnan Faihan emphasized on Thursday the necessity of supporting the work of the Human Rights Commission and empowering it to fulfill its duties.
The media office of the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "Faihan received members of the High Commission for Human Rights at his residence to follow up on key human rights issues and discuss ways to enhance cooperation and coordination between the legislative authority and the Commission in a manner that contributes to consolidating the principles of justice and protecting rights and public freedoms."
According to the statement, Faihan stressed "the importance of the role played by the Human Rights Commission in monitoring violations and following up on human rights issues," emphasizing "the need to support its work and empower it to perform its duties independently and professionally, in accordance with the Constitution and relevant international agreements, and to strengthen citizens' trust in national institutions concerned with protecting their rights."
For their part, the members of the commission reviewed “the most prominent files and challenges facing their work, and the efforts made in the field of monitoring, documentation and awareness of human rights,” appreciating “the support of the House of Representatives for them, and stressing the importance of continuing coordination to develop the legal and legislative environment that supports human rights and consolidates the principles of justice.”
