Pakistani Prime Minister: Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding to Take Immediate Effect

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced today, Thursday, that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has taken effect after being signed by the presidents of the United States and Iran.

In a press statement, Sharif said, "The presidents of the United States and Iran signed the MoU, which was brokered by me," emphasizing that the Islamabad MoU will take immediate effect.

Sharif explained that "the first step in implementing the MoU involves Iran immediately reopening the Strait of Hormuz, in exchange for the United States immediately lifting its naval blockade." He noted that "the agreement represents the beginning of a new phase aimed at reducing tensions and enhancing stability in the region."

He continued, "I would like to particularly acknowledge the sincere efforts and constructive participation of the leadership of the State of Qatar in helping to reach this stage," adding that "President Trump's unwavering commitment to diplomacy and his preference for peaceful solutions have once again helped to end the conflict."
