First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Adnan Faihan stressed to Finance Minister Falih Al-Sari the importance of closely following up on stalled government projects and adopting practical solutions to ensure their completion.
According to a statement issued by the Deputy Speaker’s Media Office and received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Faihan met with the Finance Minister on Monday at his guesthouse, in the presence of MP Ali Shaddad. The meeting focused on the country’s financial and economic situation, as well as several strategic files related to financial and administrative reform. The discussions also covered legislative measures aimed at enhancing the efficiency of public resource management and supporting sustainable development efforts.
Faihan reaffirmed his commitment to advancing a reform package concerning the preservation and management of state-owned real estate assets in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, describing the issue as vital to protecting public funds. He also called for allocating Central Bank loans under a dedicated “Sustainable Development” chapter within the general budget law, restructuring public spending to rationalize expenditures and strengthen non-oil revenues, and accelerating the adoption of electronic collection systems in coordination with international institutions.
He further emphasized the need to address stalled government projects by ensuring the completion of viable projects and reassessing the feasibility of others, in order to prevent waste of resources and safeguard public funds. He also urged the enactment of a tax exemption law for low-income earners, as well as legislation on the preservation and management of state real estate and a unified government contracts law, aimed at improving oversight of federal resources and reinforcing sound public financial management.
For his part, Finance Minister Falih Al-Sari reviewed key financial indicators, the challenges facing the ministry, and government plans to modernize financial administration and strengthen economic stability. He affirmed the ministry’s commitment to continuing cooperation with Parliament to complete the required financial and legislative reforms in line with current priorities and sustainable development objectives.
