Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi met today, Monday, with United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Arab States, Abdallah Al Dardari, and his accompanying delegation.
The Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that,”The meeting discussed a number of issues, including mechanisms for financing private-sector projects, strengthening social protection programmes, and the establishment of the Development Fund. Discussions also addressed the issue of displaced Yazidis and efforts to provide suitable conditions for their return, as well as the possibility of allocating residential land plots to them under the One Million Residential Plots Project.”
It added,”During the meeting, Prime Minister Al-Zaidi emphasized the importance of the relationship between Iraq and United Nations programmes operating in the country, particularly in the economic and development sectors. He highlighted the government’s economic policy aimed at achieving comprehensive development across various fields, as well as its efforts to review legislation related to the economic landscape in line with emerging economic priorities, in a way that serves citizens and promotes stability and development.”
Prime Minister Al-Zaidi explained,” that the government’s current direction is to prepare Iraq’s development plan through 2050, to be presented to the Council of Representatives as a bill. He stressed that a key priority of the plan is the completion of the One Million Residential Plots Project, which is being implemented across all governorates based on population size and poverty rates, to ensure equitable distribution of services and development opportunities.”
For his part, Abdallah Al Dardari congratulated Prime Minister Al-Zaidi on the government’s gaining the confidence of the Council of Representatives and affirmed the United Nations Development Programme’s readiness to provide various forms of support to Iraq’s efforts, particularly in facilitating the return of displaced Yazidis, modernizing government institutions, and supporting anti-corruption efforts.
