Iran canceled a planned attack on Israel in response to strikes that targeted Beirut, according to a report by The New York Times on Monday.
The paper said Iran had abandoned the planned operation against (Israel) after U.S. President Donald Trump intervened and urged restraint through intermediaries, citing three Iranian officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The report added that internal discussions took place within Iran’s leadership over whether to proceed with a retaliatory strike or delay action, noting that some officials believed a response could ultimately benefit (Israel) by undermining a peace agreement between Tehran and Washington, according to the newspaper.
