US President Donald Trump affirmed on Sunday that the Israeli attack on Beirut's southern suburbs should not have happened.
"The attack in Beirut should not have happened, especially on such an important day, as we are very close to reaching a peace agreement with Iran," Trump said in a press statement.
"(Israel) has the right to defend itself against threats, but the attack it responded to was very minor and insignificant," he added.
"Israel should not launch any further attacks anywhere in Lebanon, and no other party, including Hezbollah, should launch attacks against Israel," he clarified.
"This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace, so don't spoil it," he continued, adding, "We are very close to an agreement that will bring peace to the region, including Lebanon, and all parties must step back and de-escalate."
