The Iraqi Drilling Company announced on Saturday the commencement of a project to drill 17 horizontal wells in the East Baghdad field for the Chinese company EBS, as part of plans to develop oil fields and increase production capacity.

The company's Director General, Mohammed Hantoush Asad Al-Azirjawi, said in a statement received by INA that "the company has begun drilling the first well in the project using the IDC 36 drilling rig, in accordance with the directives of Oil Minister Basim Mohammed Khudair Al-Abadi, and within the framework of supporting efforts to develop the oil sector."

He added that "the project represents an extension of the successes achieved by the company in the East Baghdad field, after completing the drilling of 45 oil wells that contributed to the field's development and increased production rates."
