Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed on Friday Iraq’s firm stance against expanding the scope of the war or undermining the security and stability of the region.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said that “Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received a phone call from the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi.”

The statement added that “during the call, Grossi congratulated Fuad Hussein on the renewal of confidence in him as Foreign Minister,” emphasizing that “his continued tenure in this position reflects an approach that contributes to strengthening the stability of Iraqi foreign policy and developing Iraq’s relations with various countries around the world.”

The statement continued: “The two sides discussed developments in the region and recent efforts to reach a memorandum of understanding between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which would contribute to reducing tensions and enhancing opportunities for regional stability. They also exchanged views on the implications of any potential understandings and their impact on regional security, stressing that the peoples of the region aspire to consolidate the foundations of peace and security and avoid further escalation.”

According to the statement, "The call also addressed the attacks targeting several Gulf states. The Minister reiterated Iraq’s firm stance against expanding the scope of the war or undermining the security and stability of the region. The attack on the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates was also discussed. Fuad Hussein reaffirmed Iraq’s condemnation of this attack, emphasizing Baghdad’s categorical rejection of any aggression targeting civilians and vital infrastructure.”

Fuad Hussein indicated Iraq’s readiness to cooperate with its brotherly Gulf states through the formation of specialized joint investigative committees to help identify those responsible for these attacks, thereby strengthening collective security and preserving regional stability.

He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to Rafael Mariano Grossi for his congratulations and phone call, commending his efforts to support dialogue and build confidence, which contribute to developing Iraq’s relations with its regional neighbors, particularly the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, foremost among them the United Arab Emirates.
